Juniper WX/WXC - Wan Accelerator

There is so much WAN Acceleration appliance, like Cisco WAAS (Cisco Systems Wide Area Application Services), Citrix Systems WANscaler, Silver Peak Systems NX Series Appliances or Blue Coat Systems SG8100.
The other one is an appliance series from Juniper Networks call WX/WXC Series.
I wrote this do not mean to promote this applicances :D, it cause last week, me and my friends in WAN Monitoring team, got some training to customizing and administering this appliances.
Because my brain got a lot of thing need to memorize, so i try to write this down the summary of my training
, i hope it can be useful for those who need some review
WX/WXC platforms optimize and accelerate a broad range of applications accessed by distributed enterprise users in Wide Area Network by eliminating redundant transmission, accelerating TCP and application-specific protocols, prioritizing and allocating access to bandwith, ensuring maximum availability at sites with multiple WAN links and providing visibility into WAN and application performance.
What is WX and WXC platforms ?
WX platforms provide a scalable approach to accelerating application performance, increasing WAN capacity, and enabling application prioritization and visibility. It deliver compressed and accelerated output in speeds from 64 Kbps to 155 Mbps and support a range of connections to other WX and WXC devices.

WXC Platforms identical to the WX platforms, with the addition of on-board hard drives to store repeated data patterns, and support disk capacity from 40 GB to 3 TB and WAN links from 128 Kbps to 155 Mbps

What is the different between WX and WXC ?
By Compression feature,
WX platforms only support memory based compression and Molecular Sequence Caching, WXC platforms support both the hard-disk based caching feature, Network sequence caching, and the memory-based compression feature, Molecular Sequence Caching.
By Compressed and accelerated output speeds,
WX platforms support from 64 Kbps - 155 Mbps, WXC platforms support 128 Kbps - 155 Mbps
Here for the complete detail.
In here we use this appliance to optimizing our bandwith using QOS (Quality Of Service) with WX/WXC platforms, we are using WXC 500 for Head Office, WX250 for Branch Office, and WX20 for Unit Office.
For simple explanation, this appliances using cache to optimizing applications in our WAN. It helps us to optimizing and allocate bandwith for application which is separated by class definitions like Business Applications, Critical Applications, other applications. So can reduce waste bandwith and complaining from people in branch office :D.
They give us 8 module training which is explain about :
- Modul 1 : WX/WXC Platforms and Overview
- Modul 2 : Basic Installation of WX/WXC
- Modul 3 : Route Learning in WX/WXC
- Modul 4 : Quality of Service in WX/WXC
- Modul 5 : Packet Flow AccelerationConcept
- Modul 6 : Application Flow Acceleration Concept
- Modul 7 : Monitoring & Reporting in WX/WXC
- Modul 8 : Operation & Maintenance WX/WXC Applicances
Modul 1 explaining about WX/WXC platforms, the differences, Overview, products family, Acceleration concept.
Modul 2 until 8 explaining with practizing connect to WX/WXC appliances via web. We can configuring this devices if we can access this devices via web. Actually it can be configures via their panel in front of the appliances, but some the appliances got no panel.
The others, they have an software to manage this both appliances, its called WX CMS Management Software to configure and manage multiple WX and WXC platforms from one central location. It also provide tools for configuring and monitoring system features and deliver IT Organizations with a unified view of application and WAN link performance, including statistics on compression, application acceleration, WAN utilization, QoS, and bandwidth allocation.

Humm, i think it just simple review from me, for more literature you can check by yourself in their website and other resources below
