Disney Wedding Rings by Kirstie Kelly
October 22, 2009
A couple of years ago Disney entered the bridal market with a line of fairytale wedding dresses. The line is still going strong and now the designer, Kirstie Kelly is expanding into fine jewelry. National Jeweler reports that Kelly’s new line of diamond wedding and engagement rings, “Kirstie Kelly for Disney by Mouawad” (Disney Wedding & Engagement Rings Collection) debuted this week as part of Bridal Fashion Week in New York. The line consists of six Disney engagement & wedding rings with matching wedding bands that correspond to six Disney heroines, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Princess Jasmine from Aladdin, Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The Disney rings are being sold as semi-mounts (center stone not included) and retail for $1,200 to $6,000.
The Kirstie Kelly for Disney by Mouwad collection is a delicately crafted showcase of Disney Princess-inspired diamond and platinum engagement rings and wedding bands. The collection evokes the spirit of each Disney Princess with exquisite details and intricate design. Subtle references to the personalities of each princess can be seen throughout the collection such as pave and millgrain borders, suggestive of Cinderella’s ethereal grace and charm, or baguettes and clean lines for Ariel, symbolic of an art deco influence and her bold individuality. Jasmine’s ring exudes the rich exotic patterns found in ancient mosaics and dazzles with a bohemian chic aesthetic. Sleeping Beauty/Aurora’s princess cut ring conveys an elegant yet romantic sensibility, and for Belle the use of rose cut stones and delicate pave mounting convey her modern yet sophisticated femininity. Hinting at a vintage feel, the Kirstie Kelly for Disney by Mouawad collection embodies the modern woman.

Disney entering the bridal jewelry market is an interesting way to extend their brand. Is this move because the wedding industry is generally thought of as being recession-proof? Guess time will tell. But let’s not get all Goofy about this!!!

I think Disney has gone a little far with making engagement rings based on characters. Of course the payoff on these is probably about 15 years out when the little girls grow up and have dreamed about these rings for years.

Another reason of selecting diamond as engagement ring or wedding ring is that diamonds are considered as a symbol of true love, unity and purity. And purchasing diamond engagement ring is a very daunting task and you should be very careful before purchasing your ring.

I would rather be adorned by beauty of character than jewels. Jewels are the gift of fortune, while character comes from within.
