Racist Test

The racist test is meant to detect racial elements within one’s self. The test is designed and conducted by Harvard scientists and that’s why it is called “Harvard Racist Test”. The Harvard Racist Test is not the only test which Harvard scientists conduct. There are many other tests as well. The racist test is one of “Implicit Association Tests” also called as IATs. These types of tests comprise the response of the person he gives to external visual stimuli by demonstrating particular hand-eye coordination. The pictures on a screen are displayed and the respondent is required to use either right or left finger to press the respective buttons. These questions are called “hyper quizzes” which are to be answered quickly. The rationale behind the “quick response” is that one should not be able to take time to fabricate answers and, consequently, only sub-conscious desires and tendencies are accessed.
It is more like a “word association test”. The test taker has to respond to a picture which is displayed on the screen and he has to choose the best suited word for the picture. The words may have negative or positive senses. The quick-response questions reveal the actual tendencies of the respondent without making him conscious of what he has revealed. But there are test takers who doubt the authenticity of the test and are of the view that the test has loop holes and deficiencies as well.
According to one respondent, the test has not removed the bug of “master hand” influence because he responded most of the question with the hand which is his master hand. Similar concept of quick-response is used in other IAT tests to probe other psychological dimensions such as political tendencies, religiosity, or sexual preferences. Anyway, the racist test’s design is based upon a well-proven methodology of “quick-response” which is widely used in other psychological tests as well.
