The winter storm warning for an area that includes Longmont continues until 6 p.m. Thursday. According to Times-Call weather consultant Dave Larison, Longmont had 2.5 inches of snowfall overnight bringing both the monthly and seasonal total in the city to 6.2 inches. Normal snowfall for the season to date is 3 inches. Snowfall on Oct. 9 launched Longmont’s snowfall season earlier than normal.
“The snowfall season is off to a good start if you like snow,” he said, adding that weather patterns this year are expected to make for a more active storm track.
Roads are slushy with ice forming in some areas. Emergency dispatchers are receiving calls about vehicles sliding off of some roads and property-damage accidents.
Snow is expected to fall throughout the day in the areas under the storm warning, which also includes Fort Collins, Hereford, Loveland, Nunn, Arvada, Boulder, Golden, Lakewood, Aurora, Brighton, Denver, Denver International Airport, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Parker, Castle Rock, Elbert, Fondis, Kiowa, Larkspur, Briggsdale, Grover, Pawnee Buttes, Raymer, Stoneham, Eaton, Fort Lupton, Greeley and Roggen.
Heavy snow will continue into Thursday. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 18 inches are expected, with up to 24 inches possible near the foothills. North winds at 15 to 30 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow. Residents should expect winter storm conditions through Thursday.
