Weusi McGowan, Criminal Who Smeared Lawyer with Feces, Sentenced to 31 Years

I pity the guards who will have to deal with Weusi McGowan during his upcoming 31-year stay in prison. McGowan, who was sentenced Monday after being found guilty of home invasion and robbery, is a volatile man who both his defense attorney and the prosecuting attorney have said is violent in unpredictable ways.
How unpredictable? Unhappy with his attorney back in January, Weusi McGowan, 38, returned from a lunch break with a plastic bag full of feces he had hidden in his underwear. When he came back, he smeared it over his lawyer’s hair and face. He threw it at a juror. The juror wasn’t hit, but his briefcase was. The judge ruled that Weusi would have to compensate the juror $129 for the briefcase.
The judge immediately declared a mistrial since McGowan would need a new attorney. The new defense attorney, Stephen Cline, explained that his client, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, is mentally unstable, and does “relatively OK” when properly medicated.
“He’s mentally disabled,” the attorney said. “(But) that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He can be extremely violent if not medicated.”
McGowan went on a shooting spree when he was 16, and shortly after he was released from prison, that’s when he committed the robbery for which he was on trial. McGowan attacked a man with a rock in a sock, demanding drugs and money.
