KTBS 3 News – Severe Weather

A wicked line of weather, possibly containing two tornadoes, ripped across parts of Shreveport and Bossier Parish this afternoon in a one-two punch three hours apart. A neighborhood between Bossier City and Haughton suffered extensive damage as trees fell on houses and roofs were damaged by high winds. A pine tree fell and cut a brick house in half, briefly pinning a 94-year-old woman under debris. She was taken to the hospital for observation, her grandson said. Two dozen homes in the Mimos Gardens neighborhood were damaged.

A townhouse building in Bossier City’s GreenAcres Place subdivision burned and houses and trees all over the GreenAcres Place subdivision suffered wind damage late this afternoon. A neighborhood just north of GreenAcres also suffered damaged. Winds were so strong that they broke a large utility pole in half. An auto dealership along Benton Road was also damaged. No injuries were reported.

The signature steeple on First United Methodist Church of Shreveport was blown off as the storm cut through downtown just after 4 p.m., blowing windows out of some buildings and tearing pear trees in half. Tiles were blown off the roof of the YMCA on McNeil Street and windows were blown out of the Beaird Tower and the old federal building on Fannin Street.

The steeple fell on a car, trapping the driver and injuring him.

Approximately 75 homes around the Princeton area of Bossier City were damaged, A shelter has been set up in the gymnasium at Platt Elementary school.

Traffic lights were out all over north Shreveport.
