Former Federal Reserve chief Paul Volcker overshadowed Goldman Sachs’ biggest-ever profit.

Based Goldman Sachs posted a gaudy fourth-quarter profit of nearly $5 billion. That number beat the Wall Street analyst consensus estimate by more than $3 a share, thanks to an unusual reduction in employee compensation that handed shareholders a $3 billion after-tax bonus.
But investors weren’t cheering. They were too busy fretting over the big banks’ profit outlook in the face of a growing bonus backlash now seemingly joined by the White House. (more…)

Ford sweep awards at detroit show
A panel of about 50 U.S. & Canadian automotive journalists named the Ford Fusion Hybrid the automobile of the year award & the Ford Transit Connect the van of the year award. And Ford Motor Co, swept the 2010 North American Automobile & Van Awards. It happen at Detroit auto show on Monday, marking only the third time in the 17-year history of the award that a single automaker has claimed both titles.
The Fusion beat out the Buick LaCrosse & the Volkswagen Golf/GTI for the automobile title, while the Transit Connect beat out the Chevrolet Equinox & Subaru Outback for the van title. (more…)

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has come out with its annual list of Top Safety Picks. Eight SUVs and 19 cars have been given Top Safety Pick awards for 2010. People who want to make sure they’re getting the safest cars before filling out a personal loan application for a car loan should definitely check out this list.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named six vehicles made by Ford, which makes Volvos, Top Safety Picks. Subaru and Volkswagen each had five vehicles named on the list. The Institute picked four Chrysler vehicles.

Nineteen cars and 8 SUVs earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award for 2010.

The federal government just made some very noteworthy changes to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which anyone even thinking about buying in The Villages, or anywhere else for that matter, should be aware of.
