Habush, Habush & Rottier Sues Cannon & Dunphy for Hijacking Name in Online Searches
Habush, Habush & Rottier has sued competitor Cannon & Dunphy for paying Google and other search engines to direct people who search for Habush to the Cannon website, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The suit claims Cannon violated Habush’s privacy rights under Wisconsin state law.
Wisconsin’s largest personal injury law firm has taken a different legal tack in an effort to get a competitor to stop hijacking its name in Google searches.
Past suits over purloined search terms have named Google as the defendant, and usually claim violation of trademark rather than privacy laws, according to the story. (more…)

Wisconsin’s largest personal injury law firm pioneered lawyer advertising in the state back in the early 1980s, but it appears it may have been asleep at the keyboard when its biggest competitor turned to Google, Yahoo and Bing. Habush, Habush & Rottier, one of the state’s oldest and largest law firms specializing in personal injury cases, has had many publicized successes and advertises a lot.
Someone looking for a personal injury lawyer in the Milwaukee area might easily type the names Habush and Rottier into an Internet search engine.
But the first result most major search engines return is for a Habush competitor – Cannon & Dunphy.
On Wednesday, Robert Habush, Daniel Rottier and their law firm sued William Cannon, Patrick Dunphy and their Brookfield law firm, asking that a court halt the defendants’ use of paid-for keywords Habush and Rottier to direct searchers to the Cannon & Dunphy Web site. (more…)

Cisco vs. HP for 3Com acquisition
Cisco and HP have been duking it over their visions for the next generation data center architecture and the battle is just getting interesting. Cisco entered the server market and HP has countered by purchasing 3Com for $2.7 billion.
Simply put, both Cisco and HP have encroached on their rival’s home turf. The 3Com purchase gives HP a foothold in security (3Com owns TippingPoint), switches and routers (statement, breaking news). HP also becomes the No. 2 networking vendor. Cisco CEO John Chambers foreshadowed the HP collision course back in August. He declared HP a clear foe.
