Obama promotes NJ governor’s bid for re-election
President Barack Obama is telling voters in New Jersey that challenging economic times are worrying parents who want to send their kids to college and plan for their own retirement.
Obama is campaigning on behalf of New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Jon Corzine, who is in a tough bid for re-election. Corzine is tied in polls with his Republican opponent, Chris Christie.
At a rally in Camden on Sunday, Obama blamed the economic downturn on trickle-down policies and lax regulation favored by Christie’s Republican Party. The president praised Corzine for moving the state forward on education and economic issues. (more…)

In an off-year election, there are few races to analyze in November. And there’s a danger of over-interpretation on Election Day 2009. Boxing Hall of Famer Lou Filippo dead at 83
On Monday, California boxing judge and referee for over 30 years, Lou Filippo, died at the age of 83 in Los Angeles. Lou Filippo was once a professional boxer who fought as a lightweight from 1947 to 1957 in Southern California. During his decade-long career, his professional record was 23-9-3 with 8 KOs. Filippo was also inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame for his efforts in the sport.
He began to referee and judge the sport he loved in the mid-1970s.
The WBC held a moment of silence this week in Filippo’s honor during its convention in Jeju, South Korea. (more…)

Today Election day 2009 at US
Last year every group in the country was geared up to get out the vote. This year, not so much as the off year election cycle comes to a close with Election Day 2009 – November 3, 2009.
Where I live in upstate NY, there are a handful of interesting items and posts to vote on. I live in the Town of Union and we are voting on county clerk and a town justice. In Broome County, the most interesting vote going on will be the one facing the residents of the Village of Johnson City. They are voting whether to dissolve the village or not. (more…)
