FAA Computer glitch that delayed flights repaired
A computer glitch that shut down most departing flights at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and caused long delays across the country was repaired late Thursday morning, but it will likely take hours for flight schedules to return to normal. “Systems that allow for the automated processing of flight plan information have been restored,” Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said at 10:30 a.m.
“We are investigating the cause of the problem,” Bergen said.
Bergen said earlier in the morning that the problem was affecting flights that had not yet taken off and that air traffic controllers “have radar coverage and communications with planes” already in the air. (more…)

FAA Flight Delays: Computer Glitch Causing Delays – A nationwide FAA computer system malfunction is causing flight delays at some Airports Thursday. The program actually designed to automatically enter flight plans stopped working properly around 5:15 Thursday morning, forcing flight controllers to enter the information manually and leading to system-wide delays.
The flight plan includes the destinations, routes, weight and baggage information regarding the planes that take off and land from airports in the nation. The air traffic control systems have not been affected. (more…)

FAA Flight Delays: Glitch Causing Delays Fixed
Air travelers nationwide scrambled to revise their plans Thursday after an FAA computer glitch caused widespread cancellations and delays for the second time in 15 months. The Federal Aviation Administration said the problem, which lasted about five hours, was fixed around 10 a.m., but it was unclear how long flights would be affected.
Doug Church, a spokesman for the National Air Traffic Controllers Union, said controllers were still entering flight plans manually in some locations even after the glitch was fixed.
Aviation officials told The Associated Press that the problem began at the computer center in Salt Lake City. The officials asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly. (more…)
